Sensitive Choices and Hubris

My heroine Molly Ivins never fails to get me up on my soapbox. Read her latest column "This line up is...ah...." It appears the bushites have hired the Gang of Four to run Iraq. Chalabi is a convicted thief, Woolsey is an over the hill spy with some interesting ideas about WWIV, and perhaps the most arrogant choice of all is Gen. Jay Garner (Ret.)...a zionist who "visited Israel as the guest of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs and signed a statement in October 2000 blaming the Palestinian Authority for the violence after the collapse of peace talks and praising the 'remarkable restraint' of the Israeli army." (Quote from Molly.) Wha' tha hell! We have a zionist as the interim head of Iraq. Which White House idiot thought this would be a good idea? Definitely not the most sensitive choice for the region. Now I know you folks out there are doing the math and saying "wait, Mileah, that's only three in our gang of four," well, I count Rumsfeld as the fourth member of Our Gang of Four. He's gotta be pulling the strings.

Next!

Am I the only one concerned about the ominious language Shrub and his cronies are using in reference to Syria? The drumbeats sound very familiar..."harboring Iraqi leadership"..."developing chemical weapons." I seem to recall pretty much the same language about Iraq a year or so ago. Lordamercy, are we just gonna roll the rest of the way through the Middle East and rename it The American Territory of the Middle East?

Regime Change in 2004

All that we have to do to acheive a regime change here in 2004 is vote, yes, vote! No tanks nor fighter planes are necessary. I think it's unbelievable that it is always such a struggle to get out the vote in this country. You can bet that the majority of Iraqis will be voting soon. Hey, they could "reeducate" that Minister of Information guy Mohammed Saeed al-Sharaf and have him run for president of Iraq. He is almost as good for a laugh as Bush was when he was running in 2000. *sound of explosions, FA-18 Hornets overhead, tanks rumbling down the streets of Baghdad* "Today we slaughtered them in the airport. They are out of Saddam International Airport," see what I mean, funny guy. I bet Bush can name the ruler of Pakistan now. For someone who campaigned as an isolationist he sure has been busy nation building. Not to mention nation deconstructing.

In her latest column, Molly Ivins mentions that the Bush administration will soon be providing "universal health care and massive school construction for postwar Iraq, while simultaneously cutting health and education funding here at home." Nice.

Coalition of the Willing?

I'm trying to figure out which government marketing genius or speech writer came up with this "coalition of the willing" nonsense. Does no one in the White House realize that the phrase simply emphasizes the fact that it is anything but a coalition of the willing? Coalition of the coerced, coalition of the bribed, coalition of the wha' the hell were we thinking, coalition of the we need to boost our economy with US dollars, yes...willing, not so much. Hey Shrub, most of us are smarter than that.

On another note: Has there been a global permalink failure? Or is it just me?
